Volunteer Your Driving Services

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAEVCT is currently looking for volunteer drivers. We would welcome anyone who would like to contribute to their local community, who enjoys driving and has a few hours to spare. As our registered charity struggles to meet demand, many people are left unable to access the transport they require for day to day living. Your help would be much appreciated.

As a volunteer driver you can give as much time as you are able and can choose to either drive for a specific organisation or become a pool driver driving for a number of different organisations and groups. Ongoing training and support will be provided.

Volunteer driver Naomi Roberts on why she enjoys volunteering with EVCT ” I often use the minibus to take groups of internationals on cultural trips in the local area and also residents from my mother’s residential home on outings to place like Caerphilly Garden Centre. As well as it being a pleasurable experience for me, those that come on board thoroughly enjoy the experience of community created by being together”.

  • What is the salary?

These are volunteer opportunities and there is no employee / employer relationship and no salary.

  • Do I need a PSV / PCV licence?

No.

  • Do I need ‘D1’ on my driving licence?

Category ‘D1’ is useful as it enables a wider range of vehicles to be driven. Those without category ‘D1’ will still be able to drive our minibuses.

  • Are there any age restrictions?

New drivers should have two years driving experience and be aged 25 plus. Additional restrictions apply to those aged over 70; please contact us for details.

  • I’m only available to drive weekends or evenings. Is that any help to EVCT?

If you are only available to drive at weekends or in the evenings this will still be of help to EVCT.

  • Am I covered by insurance?

Yes – All volunteer drivers are covered by the comprehensive insurance policies which EVCT has taken out to cover the service.

  • Do I need experience of driving large vehicles?

Previous experience of driving vehicles the size of Transit vans would be beneficial but is not considered essential.

  • What training will I receive?>

Familiarisation of the vehicles is arranged for all drivers with follow up sessions as required.

  • Where can I find out more?

Please call us on 029 2070 5138 or email us if you have any query that we’ve not answered. If you prefer, you can make an appointment for an informal chat to discuss volunteering.
